Barnsley Freelance Photographer Doug Jackson covers editorial, press and PR commissions. Before Doug Jackson established his freelance photography business in 2003, he worked as a staff photographer for some of the North's leading newspapers. Although based in nearby Sheffield I regularly work in the Barnsley area. Recently I have shoots for GIST Logistics, Macmillan Cancer Care, Tesco (Riding for the Disabled), Specsavers and many other Barnsley based businesses.

The town has has recently undergone a huge £120M re-vamp. As well as a new library there is a focus on improving the retail outlook with a new cinema, bright and modern new premises, as well as a revitalised market. The Victorian Arcade and Georges yard area has a lovely old world feel with cobbled streets and has plenty of independent shops such as tearooms and bakeries.

Barnsley is an interesting place to visit and live and features a fabulous Museum and Discovery Centre with lots of kids activities. Why not visit Cannon Hall Farm for more kiddie’s friendly fun or experience the Meerkats at Wigfield Farm. For budding bird watchers there is RSPB Old Moor and fans of Industrial History flock to Elsecar Heritage Centre.
