Commercial Photographer – Voisins in Jersey
Working as a Commercial Photographer in Sheffield, travel is normal although I did recently had the opportunity of doing a Commercial shoot on the island of Jersey. The commission was to photograph many aspects of Voisins department store. Voisin & Company was founded by Francis Voisin on 5 April 1837 as a haberdashery shop in 26 King Street. The company expanded throughout the next 180 years and has added departments in external locations.
Commercial photography covers all aspect of the business. My client knows that I can shoot the departments, some branding images, internals, external, food and café shots all in the same short shoot period. I was in Jersey for two whole days and they were pretty busy ones.
Although based in Sheffield I do get to work around the UK and was delighted to find I could fly to Jersey from Doncaster Airport. That meant the door to door time was similar to driving into London and certainly less stressful. One of the issues with flying is the weight allowance. It really forces you to pack light and you soon realise that even the weight of a camera bag and case can compromise choice of lens of lighting gear.
The store was amazing and immaculate. All the staff being super kind and helpful made my life a great deal easier and I was blown away with the range quality of the stock. Michael Kors handbags to D&G clothing as well as bedroom, kitchen, housewares and a huge beauty and cosmetics section.
Photographing large spaces with lots of different bulbs and areas can have its challenges but as depart store photography goes it was one of the easier ones I’ve shot. It was fun to be working somewhere new and I was blown away by Jersey’s beauty and wealth. An interesting trip.
